Circular X researcher Laura Niessen co-authored a paper on the role of growth in sufficiency-oriented businesses. Those are businesses that focus on producing and consuming only what is truly needed in order to tackle resource overconsumption and stay within planetary boundaries.
The open access paper "How to Survive in a Growth-Oriented Economy" details the insights of a semi-systematic literature review. In it, the authors found that sufficiency-oriented businesses often struggle with pressures to grow but use coping mechanisms, such as alternative modes of growth, changing the paradigm around business and changing business structures and networks.
